Everything you need to know about Amazon's new fee changes

Everything you need to know about Amazon's new fee changes

With a new year already in full swing, Amazon is restructuring their FBA fees for US sellers. We have comprised some of the most important dates that will be affecting all sellers, and what exactly will be changing.

February 22nd, 2017

  • FBA Fulfillment Fees (Order Handling, Pick & Pack, and Weight Handling) will be charged as one per-unit Fulfillment Fee.
  • FBA media and non-media will be charged the same Fulfillment Fees.
  • October fees will be consistent with November and December fees.
What this means: Depending on whether you are selling standard size or oversized inventory, your FBA fulfillment fees will be increasing, decreasing, or staying the same. If you are selling media on Amazon, be prepared to pay the same fees as all other sellers. Amazon is lowering the per-unit Fulfillment Fee in October, so sellers will now have an extra month to send inventory to FBA at a lower cost.

March 1st, 2017

  • Monthly FBA storage fees are increasing by $0.10 /cubic foot
What this means: The change in monthly FBA storage fees will only impact standard size items. This storage fee update will not impact oversize item rates. Amazon lowered October’s fees in 2016, and raised them during November and December. This year, expect Amazon to keep October’s storage fees consistent with November and December’s rates.

July 19th, 2017

  • Amazon is increasing how often sellers are asked to send items to multiple locations.
What this means: When a shipment plan is created, there will be an option to use Amazon’s default fulfillment center recommendations or use an inventory placement service. Amazon’s inventory placement service allows you to ship to fewer fulfillment centers, but sellers will be charged a fee.
Seller Central provides two reports that break down and help you estimate your FBA storage fees.
  • Reports > Fulfillment > Payments > Long Term Storage Fees
  • Reports > Fulfillment > Payments >  Monthly Storage Fee Charges
As fees increase this year, it’s now more crucial than ever to keep track of all of your costs. These changes will have a direct impact on your bottom line, and understanding where you can streamline your processes and cut costs will make all the difference.
